Make your adventures mysterious
Perhaps you find yourself wondering where Cleopatra's tomb is, is there a money pit on Oak Island, whether the Copper Scroll treasure is real, what the fate of the Ark of the Covenant was, if the Hanging Gardens of Babylon were real and if there is a City of Atlantis? Inquisitive questions like that might make you feel similar to famous mystery adventurers like Alexander von Humboldt, Marco Polo, Jacque Cousteau, Jean Batten, Sir Edmund Hillary, Dame Naomi James, Fridtjof Nansen, Roald Amundsen, Ernest Shackleton, Thor Heyerdahl, Steve Irwin or Bear Grylls. Imagine what Dutch explorer Abel Tasman experienced when he sailed into New Zealand waters for the first time.
Mystery trips give you a surprise travel vacation and time to think about that sunrise experience in Golden Bay, moonlight tours on the High Country Mackenzie Basin, or discovering penguins in the moonlit Catlins!
A mystery trip is your anonymous ticket, exciting curiosity and awe to secret far-flung NZ journeys, helping scratch that travelling itch, ensure you support local and discover more of this beautiful countries unidentified destinations you may not have seen.
Holidays during difficult times
Surprise holiday-makers are spending more than ever on holidays to make up for lost time. So, what does a dream holiday or mystery getaway look like when you've already been everywhere and bought everything? Some people are taking bigger, better, more higher-value trips; not holding back with their holidays.
It's more about the journey than the destination. Social Nature Movement sticks true to its roots in the art and science of immersive travel through mystery tours. You won't read about us using helicopters, super-yachts, sports cars and other exclusive superlative snobbery. We provide clients with experiences that can't be bought and manufactured; a desired feeling rather than a focused destination, and we do so using - as much as possible - human-powered movement and 100% nature-based immersions. It is based on travel principles that stimulate interest and adaptation, keeping everyone engaged.
Many of our trips are also kept secret, making holidays less about bragging rights or sharing with the public. Mystery escapes are personal and thus personalised.
Tourists who contact us want authentic deep-experiences; showcasing the natural beauty of New Zealand. Mystery escapes are about our people and unusual discoveries that capture audiences. Some clients also don't want themselves or their kids to feel entitled, so they want something really down-to-earth and authentic. Being away and being as natural as possible, is far more important than consumer goods. We won't put you on a scheduled and choreographed tour experience, being treated as another statistic to entertain.
Luxury expeditions. The emergence of adventure-focused luxpeditions follows that of glamping (Glamourous Camping). A luxpedition takes glamping a step further by adding rugged adventures to the mix. Imagine a Bear Grylls type experience, while retreating back to clean and cozy sheets, among other lavishing's during your Mystery Adventures!
Why choose a mystery adventure?
People want to do stuff that makes them feel like they have achieved things beyond their everyday norms. To feel a real sense of adventure, for a mum to feel closer to her daughter, and for mates to be better mates for life, a mystery getaway helps them discover themselves and each other through novelties and a certain lack of control. So, they are not just going places because they felt socially obliged.
Types of mystery tours
Our Pioneer package is often local and any day of the week, the Traveler is often over the weekend and further afield, Explorers usually extend the weekend taking Friday to Monday off and Adventurers like to go midweek Wednesday-Wednesday or Sunday-Saturday (allowing Saturday to prepare and Sunday to rest).
All of our Mystery Adventures are within Health and Safety scope and within our Adventurous Acitivity Audits, should this be the case.
We accept the inherent challenge with mystery escapes is subjectivity. But one must remember; subjectivity coupled with the unknown is in part essential to the true meaning of adventure and surprise travel vacations. So what we guarantee is not waking up to concrete walls, an annoying alarm clock, surprise expenses, cutting costs through cheaper alternatives and any other anxious annoyances which we have avoided.
Mystery Adventures are like winning the lottery only it’s anonymous, curious, vigorous, fabulous, glorious, spacious, desirous, wondrous, delicious and marvelous. But don’t let our wordsmithery slow you down from booking your Mystery Adventures getaway. If this all seems like you, book your tickets here and expect the unexpected. You need to get lost to find yourself.
