Term Four Summer School Holidays programmes – Ten Water Adventures
Camp Cousteau is all about water, exploration and building confidence in aquatic environments. Across the summer programme, participants develop practical skills through paddling, kayaking, raft building, coasteering and other water-based adventures. Each experience encourages teamwork, problem-solving and water awareness while helping participants become more confident and capable around the water.
Day 1

Participants demonstrate stable paddling technique, safe falling/re-mounting, and basic self-rescue in controlled conditions.
Day 2
Day 2
Participants demonstrate efficient forward paddling, safe turning/stopping, and group paddling protocols on open water.
Day 3
Day 3
Participants design and build a functional raft that floats and can be propelled, demonstrating teamwork and practical problem-solving.
Day 4
Day 4
Participants demonstrate safe movement across rocky coastal terrain, hazard spotting, and confidence in water entries/exits under supervision.
Day 5
Day 5
Participants are assessed against a defined competency checklist and achieve documented sign-off on mastered skills.
Turn five days of water adventures into a complete camp experience, with the group staying together, sharing meals and enjoying several days away from home. Stay at Sullivans Bay with glamping accommodation and spend the week building confidence across paddling, rafting, coasteering and water skills.

Participants demonstrate correct mask/snorkel technique, calm breathing, and safe buddy procedures in a designated zone.
Day 7
Day 7
Participants demonstrate surf-zone awareness and controlled wave selection while maintaining safe spacing and exits.
Day 8
Day 8
Participants demonstrate synchronised paddling timing and team communication, improving stroke consistency across a crew.
Day 9
Day 9
Participants improve stroke efficiency by demonstrating correct catch, exit, and posture over repeated short efforts.
Day 10
Day 10
Participants demonstrate surf etiquette, safe board handling, and progress toward controlled pop-up or prone riding appropriate to level.
Make the week a complete coastal camp experience, with shared accommodation, meals and several days of water-based adventure. Stay at Muriwai and experience a mix of snorkelling, bodyboarding, kayaking, dragon boating and surfing—all while building confidence and practical water skills.
