Meola Reef Te Tokoroa

Meola Reef Te Tokaroa

Duration: day / 6-8hrs

An extended and exciting version of our first stage Reef-only walk, we head to the source of the 11km lava flow to Mt St John. We start at the volcano, with a 360 degree view of the city and can see our Meola Reef destination in the distance. We walk through praks, reservces and other valocanic fields, tracing the lava flow to our tidal reef. Once we arrive at Meola Reef Reserve, we continue out to the water and begin our normal Meola Reef tour.

This is our Ki uta ki tai / Mountain-to-Sea path (Ridge to Reef).

Auckland’s longest lava flow (11km) from Te Kōpuke / Mt St. John volcano since 28,500-years covers 14 hectares with its two kilometer long tidal tongue basalt reef in the Waitematā Harbour.

Walk to the Reef

Reef

Explore the reef

Arrive at the Meola Reef Reserve, continue onto and through the reef, look back to where yo came, enjoy the rewards.

The Meola Reef walk is an urban city outdoor adventure. It explores an old lava reef, only navigable during low-tide. One sees the city from a different persepctive and feels like they are in the wilderness.

It is therapeutic, insightful and empowering! Another hidden gem by SNM; an outdoor experience close to home. Learn about all kinds of flora and fauna. Get off the beaten path, away from the crowds and embrace your inner explorer.

We select the best staff for the job based on their skills, knolwedge and experiences. They will be an SNM staff member or we will bring in support from equally competent contractors. Sometimes we also bring in (semi)celebrity guests!
